On April 23, the World Steel Association (WSA) released data on global crude steel production for March. In March, the crude steel output of 64 countries and regions included in the World Steel Association's statistics was 169.2 million tons, an increase of 15.2% year-on-year.
From the perspective of the top ten steel producing countries (regions), in March, China's crude steel output was 94 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.1%. India's crude steel output was 10 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 23.9%. Japan's crude steel production was 8.3 million tons, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year. U.S. crude steel production was 7.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.0%.
Russia's crude steel output was 6.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. South Korea's crude steel output was 6.1 million tons, an increase of 4.7% year-on-year. Turkey's crude steel output was 3.4 million tons, an increase of 9.2% year-on-year. German crude steel production was 3.6 million tons, an increase of 10.4% year-on-year. Brazil's crude steel output was 2.8 million tons, an increase of 4.1% year-on-year. Iran's crude steel output was 2.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%.
In March, crude steel production in Asia and Oceania was 123.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%. EU crude steel production was 13.6 million tons, an increase of 17.5% year-on-year. Crude steel production in North America was 9.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.1%. Crude steel production in South America was 3.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%. The output of crude steel in the Middle East was 3.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.6%. The CIS crude steel output was 9.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.0%.
In the first quarter of 2021, global crude steel production was 486.9 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.0%. Among them, the crude steel output in Asia and Oceania was 356.9 million tons, an increase of 13.2% year-on-year. Crude steel production in the European Union (27 countries) was 37.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%. Crude steel production in North America was 28.1 million tons, down 5.2% year-on-year. Crude steel production in the CIS region was 26.2 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%.
